Coyoacán

Place of coyotes in Nahuatl. After the conquest of Tenochtitlan in 1521, Cortés and his men settled here, while the capital was rebuilt with the new European layout. Convents, orchards and colonial haciendas gave Coyoacán its historical and picturesque ambiance; it has been home to many artists, bohemians and intellectuals; it also has a great tourist attractive, because of its cultural offerings, squares, markets and fondas; as well as its esquites and famed ice cream.
